Mass Effect 2 is Done, First Character Face Sketch for “The Game” and Taking Another look at Wiley’s 3DS Max 2010 Bible.

So I finally finished Mass Effect 2 yesterday. I’m not really going to mention it, it wasn’t really worth mentioning. I will just say this: good job on the story Bioware, my character didn’t die. Anyway, after finishing Mass Effect 2 I took time to watch the latest on Extra Credits and also watched some other videos — all game-related of course. I stumbled upon a game called I Am Alive, which I don’t think looks too promising, despite the fact that it has been in development for about five years now. Don’t get me wrong, the game as we have seen it so far looks decently good, but graphics are not everything, and a game like this is typically really good (because it has awesome plot elements and/or interesting mechanics) or really bad (because it doesn’t.) Anyway I’ll keep my eye on this game and see how it turns out.

So after relaxing for a bit I jumped back to work. As I have mentioned before, my brother and I had been working on a game project of our own, so I got back to sketching concepts to model as 3D game asset. I’m going to be honest; I feel like I have a great ability to model with the right reference images, but what really gets me is UV Mapping and Textures. I still don’t quite understand how to make/use bump maps or normal mapping for high detail, and I’m still not the best at making textures to go with the objects I model.

I’m working on it though. I managed to get a hold of a copy of Wiley’s 3DS Max 2010 Bible a while back and haven’t really looked at it since me and my brother went on our long hiatus from the project due to school work. I started looking at it again last night and I plan on continuing in the book after work this evening.
