Hello everyone, sorry for holding out on you for the past two weeks, I guess after the stress of finals and some personal issues I just crashed, general adaptation syndrome and whatnot. Anyway, enough about me. Here have some game news:
Yesterday, 343 and Halo Waypoint handed out awesome goodies on via Twitter to celebrate the 343rd day of the year. Every hour a new code was tweeted with a certain hash tag (#) to be entered on the Halo Waypoint website for prizes. I always love it when the developers and publishers do this kind of thing, and while I am personally disappointed that I couldn’t try my hand at it (my Windows Live ID wouldn’t work for some reason,) it is always nice to see the interconnection between the consumers and the industry itself, something rarely seen in other entertainment mediums such as film.
In other news, Mojang is hiring. What are they looking for exactly? Well the tricky thing is I don’t actually know. Notch posted on his blog that Mojang was hiring developers; which many took to mean anyone one wants to work on video games. For those unaware of the game development process, especially for indie games that don’t use an engine, that leaves open a wide range of people to apply. Notch later confirmed later via Twitter that “We focus on hiring good people, not filling specific positions. If you think you’d fit perfectly, please apply and tell us what you’d do! =)” I think it is great to go straight to the community for future developers and I believe it also helps connect the community to the developers like I mentioned before. However, before I give too much credit I also have to say that I think this is a big risk for Mojang by lacking specifics and just taking whoever,”feels right,” maybe its just me, but going out on such a limb just doesn’t feel like a legitimate business strategy.
Anyway, it’s only 11:45am here, the day is far from over and all the interesting news I could find was from yesterday. It is likely that I will make a second post tonight, but no guarantees. I am probably going to go work on some of my internship materials, work on a Christmas present for my girlfriend or start on Mass Effect 2, no sure which yet.
