So, where to begin. The last time I posted I was seven-months younger and I was driven by blind ambition.
The ambition is still there; however, now I am looking at reality.
The computer hardware mentioned in my last post — we have it. Following the end of my Freshman year in college I created a monster (those interested can see the specifications below.) I spent about a month-and-a-half trying to pick out good solid components that would allow for the most longevity in my/our (I paid for everything but the OS and put it together while my brother handed me tools and provided an extra pair of hands)
With hardware we went straight to work on out Skyrim mod project: “A Big Mistake” laying out environments, setting up an epic quest, recruiting voice talent, managing packages coding in papyrus etc.
Unfortunately, when the summer ends time becomes scarce, and right before school hit we faced a huge bug: all of the terrain in a Wilderness Cell outside of Bleakwind Basin went missing.
So, here we are, school has started, I have little to no free time and the work of the past year may end up being a complete waste. The worst of it is that, since the mod has not been released by now, I still have very little semblance of portfolio (unless you count the pictures I have of an Unreal Tournament 3 map I made a few years back, and the pictures of 3D models that I’ve made that are posted online.)
It was worth it. Every minute of it.
Back to school. I have been pursuing a Business Administration degree at Catawba College in hopes that I could find a job somewhere in the video game industry; however, after a long spell of soul-searching I found that It’s really not what I wanted. My family and close friends assured me that I really need to pursue an education beyond four years of undergraduate education. Thus, as of earlier today, I have applied for undergraduate admission to North Carolina State University, with hopes of joining the College of Engineering once I have finished their minimum requirements (I need another Calculus.) With a major in Computer Engineering I feel that I could make a great contribution to technology as a whole, whether it impacts video games or not.
Anyway, this was a long and personal post. Some interesting news will likely be up later today.
