The inaugural Escapist Expo took place this past weekend at Durham Convention Center in Durham, N.C.
There are a million phrases that could be used to express how awesome the event was; however, since I don’t have hours to make one blog post. I feel it would suffice to say that the majority of the show was dedicated to geeky people doing geeky things. There was Magic: the Gathering, anime, cosplay, a retro arcade and of course console and computer gaming.
The expo floor was full of exhibitors from development/publisher companies such Redstorm and Funcom and even independent developers such as F!asco House and Mighty Rabbit Studios. It was good fun.
Advertisement’s for the next Magic: the Gathering set “Return to Ravnica” reminded me that the set is coming soon and that soon I will no longer have much of a standard legal collection. Furthermore, the official Magic: the Gathering Twitter account (@wizards_magic) recently announced that Ravnica Guild shirts are now available for preorder.
While on campus at North Carolina State University this weekend — I was staying with a friend during the expo — I was reminded that “Black Mesa,” the mod, was released. For those who don’t know what I’m referring to, the “Black Mesa” mod is an overhaul and remastering of the original Half-Life game. For those who still don’t know what Half-Life is, click this link. With the release of this mod, it is highly likely that I will go ahead and play through Half-Life and Half-Life 2 in the near future. The mod can be downloaded via Valve’s Steam service.
